Opened in August 1920 as the Anmsterdamsche Jeugdbioscoop. In 1921 it was re-named Rialto Cinema and had a seating capacity for 500.
It became a twin screened cinema in the late-1980’s and for a while, the second screen was known as the Rivoli. Today, as the Rialto Cinema it remains one of Amsterdam’s popular art house cinemas, located just off the city centre.
It was re-modeled into a triple-screen cinema in Summer 2007.

Last year the interior was redone, the two auditoriums were removed and now it has a total of 3 screens. The Rialto was designed by architect J. van Schaik and built by Gebroeders Glaswinkel.
