The short-lived Embassy Theater on Woodward Avenue near John R Street operated from 1927, and was equipped with a Reproduco Photoplayer Pipe Organ. It was destroyed by fire on September 16, 1931.

I have a snapshot of Woodward Avenue showing a theatre just past John R Street (on the right) with the Fox Theatre tower in the distance (on the left). From the look of the cars, etc. I would date the photo in the 1940’s. The three lines of words on the marquee are not readable. Is it possible this theatre showed foreign or ethnic films? The name of the theatre is not readable, but there seems to be a letter “C” in it. This definately matches the location and the building. Is it possible the theatre was reopened after the 1930 closing?
I think the Embassy Theatre was actually at 1418 Woodward Avenue with a tight seat count of 288 sporting a Reproduco Photoplayer Pipe Organ opening in 1927. It was within an existing building that, itself, had a different address - along with all of the buildings - prior to the Woodward Ave.’s renumbering in 1921.
The Embassy converted to sound. And I think the fire of September 16, 1931 there - in which a crowd of 10,000 showed up - both was its biggest night and its last night of operation. But feel free to go with your information if it’s preferable.
