This small multiplex (five screens) opened on August 17, 1973 in Pleasant Hill, CA. A sixth screen was later added by Regency. It has since closed (I believe sometime in the 1990’s). The first line up looked as follows:
1)“Tom Sawyer”
2)“Forty Carats”
3)“The Neptune Factor”
4)“The Mackintosh Man”
5)“Live and Let Die”

I think this may have been the Tom Sawyer that played Radio City Music Hall starring Johnny Whitaker. I think it was Readers Digest that produced it.
Readers Digest also produced a “musical” version of Huckleberry Finn—Both films shared much of the cast.
The Regency cinemas, which sat at the edge of a shopping center anchored by a Toys R us and Target, closed during a remodeling of the shopping center that brought in new tennants. Rumor has it, there was a dispute involving the parking lot, where the theater could no longer use as much space as it had in the past. The theater subsequently closed, and was remodeled into a Lamps Plus. The entrance was relocated to the back of what was the theater, which faces a much smaller parking lot.
The Regency opened as a companion five-plex to the Festival Cinemas in nearby Walnut Creek. The same company operated both theaters and the combined ten screens dominated the Walnut Creek-Pleasant Hill-Concord area during the 1970s, giving Syufy’s Century a run for its money and signalling a decline for formerly high-end houses such as the Capri. The Regency was not as well-built as the Festival but at least it shared a single lobby for all of the screens.

During its tenure, Regency added another screen. Please update 6 screens. It is identical to the Regency 6 in San Rafael (still open i might add) and the Festival 6 in Hayward (until it blew up to 9 screens!).
