The Sidney Lust Drive-In was opened on July 10, 1947 with Phillip Dorn in “I’ve Always Loved You” & William Gargan in “Night Editor”. It had a planned capacity for 700 cars, but opened with 1,000 car spaces. Lust sold the drive-in in 1976 and the new owners renamed it the Beltsville Drive-In. The drive-in closed in 1987 and has been demolished.

I grew up in Beltsville. I remember Beltsville Drive in quite well. I had a million chances to take photos of it but never did.
In the late 60’s this was showing X, it may have been soft core?
Yes, I can attest that they showed X rated films in the early 80’s. They would have about 4-5 X rated films back to back.
Grand opening ad from July 10th, 1947 in photo section
when I was in high school, I worked for a company called James A. Cassidy which was located in an industrial park behind the drive-in. Every so often we would go up on the roof and watch the XXX films. I’m pretty sure that this was before drive-ins began using radio waves to transmit sound, otherwise we could have listened to the cringe-worthy dialog. ‘’‘⌐(ಠ۾ಠ)¬’‘’
A Costco presently stands where the Beltsville Drive-In formerly existed.
Opened with “I’ve always loved you” and “Night Editor”.
