The Lakeland Theatre was located on Brighton Beach Avenue between Brighton Second and Brighton Third Streets. It was opened in April 1925. In 1930, alterations were carried out to the plans of architect Julius Eckman and the 1931 edition of Film Daily Yearbook lists it as the Brighton Playhouse, with a seating capacity for 407.
It was often called “the Dump”. Last operated by the Brandt Theatres chain, it was closed in 1951, and there is a Russian nightclub there now which is named the National.

The Lakeland got its name from Lakeland Place, which was the original name of Brighton 2nd Street.
