Hippodrome Theater

In 1911, the first movie theater in Williamson, West Virginia opened at the corner of E. 2nd Street and Pike Street. The theater was called the Hippodrome Theater. It was owned by Hyman Banks. In May of 1921 the Hippodrome Theater closed because Mr. Banks built a new and larger theater in another part of town (the Cinderella Theatre).

The building that housed the Hippodrome Theater became a JC Penny store for many years. In recent years it was a flower-gift shop called the Flower Peddlers. It was finally in use as a hairdresser the Main Street Salon. That was still open in December 2016. By July 2023 it had been demolished and the site was in use as a car parking space
