Dale Theater

The Riverdale Theater opened on December 11, 1927. It was equipped with a Page 2 manual organ. In 1929, the 1,000 seat theater was updated for “talkies”. On April 22, 1937 the Riverdale Theater was renamed the Dale Theater.

In 1948 the Dale Theater was completely remodeled and was operated by Mid-States Theaters Inc. The front of the theater was reconstructed of structural glass. New glass lobby doors were added, the lobby and rest rooms were redecorated. The shape of the auditorium had also been changed from rectangular to oval so that the enlarged screen could be seen from every seat in the house. In 1959 the Dale Theater closed. The auditorium has since been demolished.

I would’ve gotten some when I went up to the Amateur Radio Convention this May, but the place at this adress doesn’t look to have ever been a theatre. We drove around back and it’s too shallow for anything other than retail or a deli.

The theater portion was demolished in 1960. Basically the parking lot in the back now unfortunately. The area is completely unfortunate. There is an old Lowes theater blocks north in the 4000 block mothballed right by a shopping plaza.
