Gordon McLendon at the far left is on hand with his son, with ribbon cutting by beauty pageant winner crowned “Miss Garland” in the center and the tall guy is actor Big John Hamilton as they open the Apollo Twin Drive-In on October 3, 1968. It was a festive and impressive opening for the $1.8 Apollo Twin joining McLendon’s Astro Drive-In and Gemini Drive-In in the space age.
