St. James Theatre
In financially troubled times October 1931 was a month of turmoil for Union Theatres, with the company restructuring to create Greater Union Theatres. One odd programming item at the St James under their tenure was a one week move-over of MGM’s “Trader Horn” which opened Saturday 24 October 1931 having just completed a successful seven week season at Fuller’s Roxy opposite in Castlereagh Street. This would be the very first of many many times when Leo the lion could be heard roaring from the St James screen.
