Located on Queensland’s Gold Coast on the Gold Coast Highway at the corner of Gaven Crescent, Mermaid Beach. The Mermaid Twin was opened in February 1983 by the Birch, Carroll & Coyle chain. It had cost AU$1.9 million, and was considered the last word in luxury cinemas.

It was later triplexed and was known as the Mermaid 1,2,3. Converted into a five-screen cinema, the Mermaid Cinema Centre was closed around 2005, and was converted into the Mermaid Beach Medical Centre - Notes by Ken Roe
