Embassy Cinema Fareham

Photograph of the Architect David Nye who built the ‘Embassy’ Fareham. The front had red giant lettering outlined in mauve neon was used by Nye highlighting the narrow entrance. He also used a very similar design for his ‘Embassy’ Peterborough previously opening 1st November 1937. Nye built seventeen cinemas before WW2 commenced, six new cinemas for Shipman & King and eleven in partnership with Mollo & Egan. After the war in 1948 Nye was again engaged by Shipman & King to build a replacement for them in Rye, East Sussex named the ‘Regent’ which had been bombed during the War, the ‘Regent’ was very much in the Art Deco style. See Cinema Treasures ‘Regent Rye’.
