Foyer and Grand Staircase.
Looking past the staircase with its huge vases of flowers, which were a feature throughout the whole history of this elegant theatre, the eastern approach gallery to the Grand Dress Circle foyer can be seen with part of one of the pair of murals which were painted directly onto the plaster. The foyer was approached by a short flight of steps to the left of the picture. This was all duplicated, except for the works of art, by the western gallery above the camera. The second mural was above this and the whole was beneath a vaulted and coffered ceiling hung with chandeliers and with features picked out in real gold leaf which was re-applied only a few months before the theatre was reduced to the balcony and it was all demolished.
