The Avoca Beach Picture Theatre began its life in the front garden of the homes of Norman & Mervyn Hunter in 1948.

Soon after they built the existing Avoca Beach Picture Theatre just down the road which opened in December 1951.

The theatre continues to be a family owned and run business - four generations of the Hunter family since the theatre began. More than 65 years of happy memories. It is a charming single-screen cinema located about an hour and a half north of Sydney, Australia in the small village of Avoca Beach. It sits in a garden setting just 60 yards from a fantastic surf beach. The theatre, with originally 500 seats (today 300 seats), runs full time throughout the year.
