The 1915 Skokie Theatre was sold for $875,000 last June 29 and is set to relaunch in late September with its new owners, comedian Chris Matsakis and Monica Matsakis and actor José Pablo Cantillo and Kristi Cantillo. The lobby has a new bar, concessions and lounge space, and a lineup of new comedy, theater and live musical acts plus classes.
Built by Samuel Meyer as the Niles Center Theatre in 1915, the facade got its art-deco frontage in 1942. This week the Skokie Village Board approved a $50,000 Storefront Enhancement grant, and online fundraising has collected over $13,000 more.
