Original Albany Palace - plaque

The Albany Palace

These licence premises were built largely in 2002. The name recalls Trowbridge’s first cinema, The picture Palace, opened in 1910 by film pioneer Albany Ward. The Palace occupied the former Hill’s Hall, immediately behind this building. In 1913, Ward’s cinema was renamed the ‘Electric Palace of Varieties’, moving the following year to Fore Street.

The Albany Palace was refurbished by J D Wetherspoon in August 2009.

This is the plaque on the former Palace cinema in nearby Park Street.
