PHOTO of Harold Aspinall, projectionist at the Athenaeum Theatre 1957 – Photograph supplied by Harold Aspinall.
Of interest to those who know – The rake of the projectors & lamp-houses during the picture showing era of the Athenaeum was very severe. (refer to the photo) This was because of the positioning of the projection booth which had been constructed almost at roof level. As a result the back of the lamp-houses (Westrex) were literally touching the ceiling of the booth as they tilted downwards towards the screen. From memory the (CinemaScope) screen during the 50/60’s was also angled upwards towards the booth to compensate for the extreme angle. The projection booth at the Athenaeum was a hot place to be during the summer months.
