The Capitol theatre opened on Nov 8, 1924 with Cecil B DeMille’s silent production of The Ten Commandments, playing 3 sessions a day - 11.15am - 2.30pm & 8.00pm. The film is divided into two parts: the Prologue, which consists of the epic tale of Moses, and the Story, set in a modern setting and involving living by the lessons of the commandments. Lauded for its immense and stupendous scenes, which include the use of the Technicolor process, and the breath-taking parting of the Red Sea sequence. The film proved to be a huge box-office hit upon it’s release.
