i lived a few blocks from the El Rey and one day walked to the North Oakland Library at 35th and San Pablo. Near the Ttheater, I found an 8 X 10 glossy of Tempest storm. She was posing on a bearskin rug and and wearing a leopard-skin outfit.

After an absence of 5+ years Hayward finally got a movie theater. After 9 years it is still Hayward’s only theater and will likely remain so.

Newspapers showed it as the “New Adam” for awhile.

I don’t know what’s worse the supermarket receipt type tickets or the red generic “admit one” type.

Maybe I seen Judgment At Neurenberg at the san Pablo and not the Hilltop, if the 1963 opening date is correct.

Went there recently but could not find it. Very well hidden. No sign or marquee in sight. Asked a couple of people and they didn’t know either. I hear it’s on the 5th floor of some building on Market St.

Not about the New Century but other SF porno venues that are not listed in Cinema Treasures. I have addresses if anyone is interested, Peekarama, Turk St.Follies, Copenhagen, Gayety, Mini Adult. Penthouse, Pink Cat, Aquarius, Film Festival Theater. These are all from the mid-70’s.

I much prefer the nearby UA to the Shattuck. The theater is OK but they (Landmark) have the worst ticket stubs in the world. They’re just faded receipts similar to store receipts. C'mon Landmark, spend a few bucks for real ticket stubs. I try to avoid Landmark theaters for that reason.

A decent theater. Didn’t realize it closed.
Seen about 6 movies there.

I saw “The Girl Can’t Help It” at the Laurel in 1957. I think the co-feature was “Dino” with Sal Mineo. Does anyone remember that? A nice neighborhood theater.

Scott, Thanks for the big heads up. I didn’t know about that side before.

I remember the Roxie as a top-notch first-run house. Always enjoyed going there. A nice theater.

The Gateway was a nice theater that drew from North Oakland, Emeryville and South Berkeley.
Remember seeing Sirocco there around 1951.

The Rex looked a little rough as did it’s customers. By contrast, the Broadway and the Lux were upscale venues. I might have ventured into the Rex a time or two.

Hard to believe that no decent pictures of this drive in exists. The Union City was one of my favorite drive-ins.

xsallnow commented about Senator Theatre on Dec 15, 2013 at 5:43 am

The Senator, sometimes called the Fox Senator, was my place to go in those days as it was just a few blocks from where I lived. A very nice, well-kept theater. Good memories there.

I remember the Hilltop as being a cut above their neighbors the San Pablo and the Rancho, but it was brand new and shiny then. When did it open? Seen Judgment At Neurenberg there so that would place it as being open in 19961. It was a nice drive-in.

xsallnow commented about Rancho Drive-In on Nov 4, 2013 at 5:25 am

Used to go to both the Rancho and the San Pablo a lot in the 50’s-60’s. Newspaper theater pages showed the Rancho as being at 14th & Broadway, San Pablo and the san Pablo as being at San Pablo Ave. & Dam Rd., which I believe was in Richmind.

Used to see Cathy Carver sing at the Follies many times in the early 60’s. Her specialty was Country & Western songs and she was quite good. Cathy was very attractive, blond, medium height and in her mid to late 20’s if my memory is correct.
