Very interesting movie on the Irish times website today about the inside of the cinema and how it is fairing 12 years after closing down. The interior ( original 1923 ceiling is phenomenal – Please please please dont let this be demolished – the original interior decor of the cinema is intact and is wonderful

Closed permanantly yesterday 28/2/16 -Normal showing on its final day but very few people showed up unfortunately. All furniture and fittings were being removed today 29/2/16 and the signs on the front were taken down. The bronze usher statue was removed last week.
If you walk into Dr Quirkes next door down to the back on the right hand side- you can see that it is linked to the back of the Carlton. The area is currently used for slot machines and the likes.

Planning application up for demolition – to be replaced by yet another shopping centre / mixed development. Do we ever learn???
