I used to go to Times Square regularly . I went to all the picture palaces with 1 glaring exception .I never went to the Roxy.I went to see Around the World. Was in the Capitol the most. HTWWW was great in Cinerama. The Buffalo stampede was classic.The addition of the Japanese garden was nice. A shame every great building in NYC ends up demolished.
Do not hold your breath waiting for the landmarked portion of the theater being reassembled as promised. Would not surprise me if it is now in pieces in a landfill. Politicians do no care.They never had and never will.I no longer get involved with anything involving NY or federal government A pox on them all
Used to live in Astoria. Once the theater went so down that signaled the end of Astoria for me. A golden opportunity was sacrificed to feed the pockets of a few politicians Nothing changes in NYC.Once the greatest city in the world is a shell of what it used to be

175th St NYC Now a church Jersey Operates part time showing classic movies Queens Valencia Now a church ..Open for services Brooklyn Kings. Currently closed Open sporadically for live shows. Stanley Jersey City Jehovah’s Witnesses temple. Open for services 42nd St theaters not picture palaces .Neither are legit theaters Beacon Open for live shows and Hellinger now a church .A far cry from what we once had
See it has apparently happened.Sort of anti climatic now. A sad chapter in NYC history has closed. Demolition of classic buildings in the city started with the Roxy in 1960.It ramped up in mid 1960’s with the demolition of the NY Paramount. Now all picture palaces in NYC now gone. The outer boroughs have kept pace in destruction .Thank God I was in most of them before they were pounded to dust in the name of progress.
Does anyone else remember the Japanese garden which replaced the back of the orchestra ? Thought it was great .Saw West and the 3 panel Cinerama was great. The buffalo stampede and climax of the train shootout were great.
I said my peace and no need for any politics on this and anything else going forward. I no longer care about any of it. I am 75 and all I can say is thank god I am old. Could not deal with it if I was 30 years younger. Take care

Sorry but seeing 2 theaters destroyed by the same politician deserves notice. Generally I am apolitical but seeing this brought back many painful memories. The Triboro in Astoria in 1974 and the Keith’s in 1986 .If it offended your sensibilities I apologize
Give it a decent burial .Knock the whole thing down before it falls down. I am a theater historian that was in the initial effort to save it .Wave the white flag . Thanks Dems. This one is on you as dems sealed its doom much like they did with the Triboro 12 years earlier
A duplicate of this lobby can be found in the Loews Syaracuse in NY. The auditorium is a duplicate of the Loews 175 th St in NYC. Both theaters designed by Lamb The filigree work in the auditorium is not backing asks the one in Syracuse
Was lucky enough to visit the theater in the mid 80’s during a THS convention. Would love to have seen it when it was still operating. At least you guys have a few palaces .Here in NYC all have been torn down in the name of progress. The whole city is going down the drain so this should have been expected . Shame this beautiful structure was sacrificed in the name of progress.
It was de designated at the behest of than Borough President Donald Manes. He voted against upholding designation of the Loews Triboro . He was very anti preservationist. He was a subject of a corruption probe and later committed suicide
Had the pleasure of visiting the theater on a THS tour . Met a new owner who seemed very upbeat on its future. Chicago always had the most ornate theaters in the country. In our throwaway society,we toss something aside when we deem it is no longer needed. Sadly we will be remembered by what we destroy instead of what we retain.

Another shame where our society treats these buildings as disposable .Many could be reused in other forms. It is much easier to knock them down
