AMC does it again. They starved another theater that they had no use for into oblivion. They took out
the Esquire and now the Pipers Alley, and I guess the
Norridge is next on the hit list. Just like the Esquire….. they stocked it with films nobody wanted to see and then the revenues dropped to the point where they have enough leeway to be rid of the property. Shame on you AMC.
Are you sure that the Des Plaines is still in operation because
I passed by about two weeks ago and there was newspaper covering
the doors and the marquee had some PSA type of message on it.
Place looks extremely neglected from the outside.
I was over by the Lincoln Village the other day and it looks
awful. The marquee in back is broken in spots and the space
itself is covered up by these panels that have been totally defaced
by graffiti. That whole area around the theater has changed,
The shops that used to surround the theater in the back
by the box office are gone. A few upscale tenants have settled
into those spaces. It’s sad for me, the LV 1-6 was a big part of my adolescence. It was my spot back in the day. Is the plan still in place for that Jewish school to acquire the property?
Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be and maybe Village Entertainment IS a good company but man…. their management team absolutely
sucked the life out of the former Lincoln Village 1-6. It was absolutely horrible to see how far from grace that theater
had fallen under VE’S tenure. It broke my heart because that was my movie house growing up. I understand some corporations try and fail
with certain properties but there’s no excuse for theaters without
heat or bathrooms that resemble sewers. That’s organizational apathy. That’s neglect, plain and simple.
This anti trust decree only gives AMC the power to kill off
the theaters that it doesn’t want. Remember the Loews merger? Remember what they did to the Esquire and the Lincoln Village? They’ll sell off the theaters they don’t want to some cracker jack outfit who will manage them into insolvency. I know AMC’S game,I’ve seen them kill more than a few theaters in Chicago because of this anti trust crap.
Very sad to see Kerasotes leave the theater game, I always thought that they were a nice alternative to AMC. Is Regal a decent outfit
or are they like those clowns at Village Theaters? Just wondering.

Sounds like the Portage all over again; the city trying to squeeze a potential owner until they have to say uncle and walk away.
I never understand it when someone takes ownership of a theater
