Better if read as “This cinema in Mayfair Mall opened on May 14th, 1999 by General Cinemas with 18 screens including two VIP auditoriums which began use as regular auditoriums in October 2001. AMC, which took it over in 2002, converted auditorium #8 an IMAX screen in 2009.”
This location has always had 18 screens, and has 3801 seats.
The last movie I saw there was “Scream” (1996) probably in January of 1997.
I remember going to that mall as a little kid when it first opened. I remember walking through the center of the mall a year before it closed and there was not another human in sight. I don’t even want to talk about it now…

Instead of a 10 minute lecture, I see a much better application in having 10+ one minute promos on film that are played late among the trailers. A comedic parody of the 1950’s films on hygiene, fallout, or whatever would be very funny, and genuinely educational while being brief enough to avoid pitfalls. I have seen this on the web forum for steamfitters as the how to post for newbies. It is hilarious, and I will post a direct link when I can get it. Most people are capable of improvement, a few others are just there to waste resources.
This would allow for world wide distribution, and thus be very low cost.
Those cell phones light up like a candle. It is very disruptive, and I don’t need to see everyone around them all lit up in the glow as well. The beeps and clicks aren’t too bad, but they shouldn’t be there either. Those with deficient genitalia should just leave their cell toys in the back of their SUVs. Now hosts are finally stating that ‘if you want to get kicked out of the screening, just open up your cell phone.’ :)
17 films are listed as being shown simoultaneouly on their website. So the 16 screen lable on the web site is probably a slip up on Marcus' behalf. Imax containing cinemas don’t list the total number of screens. They list screens plus the IMAX, which is probably the crux of the matter.
Ultrascreens by definition are “75 feet wide by 32 feet tall”, so I guess I’ll grab my tape measure and drive for 6 hours…. well maybe not.
Well I am betting that the “Local choral groups and high school jazz ensembles” won’t last too long. Of course it will be the first theater to include all those amenities; after all, Marcus has the trademark on the name ‘Ultra screen’, and this will be the first time two are in the same place, so… there ya' go! ;) They have spent a year on the two month project of clearing the former wharehouse and clearing the land, but at least now I can see more construction equipment there. :)
About six months ago, they were talking about marble and granite. I do get the impression that since this is their corporate showcase, that it will indeed be top of the line, and probably markedly by far the best multiplex ever built.
I had hoped that one of the two cinemas being closed would have become second run, but I can see that ain’t happening.
Technically, Marcus has another ~20 year lease on the Grand which is owned by someone who wants to keep it as a movie palace. And it is the last thing on that stretch of City Center that needs renovating…Can you tell I’m ancy?
Yes, this was in West Allis. My Aunt used to live across the street. The first film that I saw there was as a kid, “The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg”. The best film that I saw there was “Stripes” and the last was “The Fast and the Furious.”
The Krispy Kreme went into the front corner of the parking lot while the cinema itself was torn down, and now has the area has been rebuilt with three more stores as an extension of the strip mall.
I cannot find on this site the cinema that was across 108th street. I saw “Road Warrior” there before it began cooperating with the Southtown in the late 80’s. I believe it was a 2 screen. It was in West Allis, and the address would be similar to 2899 S. 108th Street.
I believe that the studios are already in violation of the 1938 & 1948 Supreme Court anti-trust rulings about their control over distribution of movies leveraging that to stifle competition for exhibition. Which is exactly what they are doing now by consistently selling DVDs so soon after the theatrical releases so as to motivate would be movie goers to wait for the video release. Any effort between studios to fix this mess would technically fall into an anti-trust issue, but it needs to be done. The bigger violation must be fixed. They would be better off seeking outside (government) legal oversight to avoid pitfalls and workout differences while there is still time.
With so many people and communities all across the country working to restore classic exhibition spaces, it would be prudent to make their efforts last a while.

At no point have we found out under what circumstances that the Police were actually called, or the history of problems at this location.
Prices have only gone up $1.25 here in 7 years.

Digital projection may be beyond current power availability at the moment. Not too mention the raw costs that few if any could afford.
A digital screen akin to a plasma TV that could offer daylight screenings would certainly be handy.
