Sad to see that this theatre closed again. I used to work as projectionist ‘99-'01 at Biopalatset and Metropol (also closed). Loved working at Biopalatset and still miss it.
From what I remember, the long entrance corridor used to hold some photographs of the original theatre. I wonder what happened to those when they closed – if they still sit there or if someone took them elsewhere. It would be great to see them posted online!
Oasis Theatre in Blue Island, IL (Chicago) is for sale. Was originally movie theatre, but have been converted and used for performing arts. Seats about 320 I think, and has a larger dining area. Number for is 708-955-8321.
Does the Village still own any theatres? It just seems to me that they really did have a bunch of gems… but just crushed them instead of doing something with them. Perhaps next one they run to the ground I should buy for dirt cheap from them, and fix it up. The Burnham was an EXCELLENT example! I worked there a couple of times (projected) and every time I always thought of how well it could do if you just put a little bit of money into it, now that the south loop is being developed. You had the parking right there, you had the L right there, you had the colleges, the new residents, new businesses…
