My parents lived 2 blocks from the REM theater when I was born. I saw my first movies here, until we moved when I was nine, in 1952. I remember many, like “Harvey (Jimmy Stewart) and "The Red Badge Of Courage” (Audie Murphy). The REM was on the east side of S. Ohio St (our “main street”). The REM had subdued pastel floor lighting, in hues of red and orange. There was always a Movietone newsreel and a cartoon, plus previews of Coming Attractions, and sometimes a short film (I recall Abbott & Costello, “Whose On First?” and a big band or two, with vocalists). There were often drawings for gifts on Wed. nights. In Dec. the grade school children would all walk from the school to the REM to watch a special Christmas movie or cartoon feature. Afterwards, each of us received a paper bag of candy and an orange. We boys often walked to the REM to see a western or a comedy. What fun we had! Please note: Your Remington map is for a town in Virginia, not Indiana!
