when i used to go to the roadium there was a mini golf course there and just to the right was a sizzler restaurant. when i first went there there was a playground in front of the screen. 3 mins before the movie started they would dim the lights for a moment and we would all run to the car.my dad had a spotlight and he would play tag with other spotlights on the screen
on the way to the san pedro drive in usually in oct. the refinery that you would pass had a round tank that they would paint orange to look like a giant pumpkin. we knew we were close to the drive in
i have many memories of going to the la mar theatre. i saw the incredible shrinking man there. i lived on 10th street and harkness back then .i would walk all the way to the la mar then go on down to the pier where we had a friend who lived on the strand. we would store our surfboards there. great memories of the 50s and 60s
to remember the fox redondo. i used to go mostley to saturday afternoon showings. they had two movies and a cartoon plus they had a man(i think his name was roy)who did magic tricks and would collect dr. pepper bottle caps in trade for toys. in the back of the balcony they had a room with windows so mothers with crying babies could go. there were about a dozen seats in there. the cost then to see the movies was 35 cents. they also woul show shorts like sos coast guard or gang busters and flash gordon. sometimes we would leave early and go climb on the rocks in the break waters.i could use the telephones in the lobby and call my mom when the movie was over for 5 cents. our phone prefix then was frontier. i met my wife there at redondo high but i was going to pacific shores. her name was louvisa jo stanley
