I worked at night as a teenager during the summer helping to fix the seats in the Variety .It was a wierd place in 1946.Close to the Bowery and drunks sleeping it off.If I remember they closed it down at 2 AM and threw everyone out. so we could fix the seats. I always remember the tail end of almost every movie when we came in to work- but not one from that place. The marquee is a classic that show up in serious photography all the time and underneath the 3rd Ave EL.

The Parthenon should be on that list of Myrtle Ave even though it may tecnically be on Wycoff Ave it was at the convergence of the two and only a block from the Madison.

Thank you Warren.I did go there to a wedding when it was called “da ta” the Regency House a catering establishment.Abaut 1960 or when chubby Checkers twist was popular, they played it three times. I am still hping somebody knows about the all brown(sepia ) films by MGM circa 1939-40.Otherwise I will thinkI imagined it Also does anyone remember the poor sister movie house about 5 blocks past the end of the EL and the Valencia and Alden. It became a catering hall.

I guess it’s time to showoff my age. TheValencia was a wonderful kitcsh theatre. My most fond memories were some of the second features—Dr.Kildare with Lew Ayres-Lionel Barrymore-Laraine Day also all those Andy Hardy series with Mickey Rooney Lewis Stone Fay Bainter and up and coming starlets like Lana Turner Judy Garland ——Travelogues(“As the sun sets in the west we bid fond farewell to——-we will return again”) always the same line! But since we have experts on tech I saw 3D with glasses as a short in about 1940 also I never found anybody who knew about the sepia movies of MGM around the same time -short lived and used with western – I partcularly remember one with Wallace Berry.Berry seems to be forgotten in film showings.P.S Idid see The Good Earth with Paul Muni after a 1 hour wait in line my parents got 2 seats and I sat on the steps

Someone mentioned the picture of Gloria Swanson standing in the ruins of the Roxy.He mentioned seeing it in Live Magazine but I saw it in a book that I think was called Fading Movie Palaces It was the last page of a wonderful book that I have never been able to find again. It was out about 1959 Can anyone give me any help.

There had to be two Malboes.? The one I went to was in south ozone park on sutphin blvd and about 119th st. that neighborhood did become black later on but this one wasn’t in south jamaica. It was across from one of the firsr A&Ps.My cousin took me to see The first Frankenstein movie with Boris Karloff when I was 5 years old (1935) sadist!!!! that she was.I spent many hours in that little place.Fat Bob at the (lobby??) pulled a heavy curtain aside to let you in.Three changes a week so I got my film ed on the movies hard wooden seats.I remember Buck Jones westerns Flash Gordon serials Gone with the Wind-David Copperfield- Dick Powell musicals. I often wonder what happened to all those glossy stills of the current movie that were in cases that lined the front of theatre. They would be collectors items today

The park was the"classy" movie in south ozone park. Had a candy machine in back of movie Had to go upstairs to bathroom and to have a smoke. Had YoYo contest on Sat matinee on stage.Kids weren’t allowed in without a shirt. Was a WW1 cannon in little square in front of movie. Saw some great movies there Double Indemnity and used to come out blind into sun after watching first tecnicolor musicals color by MGM & Natalie Kalmus.
