How do you access multiple issues of Boxoffice on issuu.com ?
When I search for Boxoffice, it only shows three pages of issues, but I notice in your postings you somehow can access many, many more issues such as the one with the former Route 4 Paramus, NJ theater. Issuu does not have a contact field for me to ask this question.
Any idea who is taking their lease option for the Yonkers, NY Ridge Hill site that they withdrew from??? Same scenario applies to the Bronx, Ny Kingsbridge Armory retail project which was voted down today, but will later be reserrected at some point.
FYI: The Hawthorne, NY location may eventually close along with Cross County, yonkers, because the landlord is pushing them out after converting the center into an upscale retail destination.
Very interesting article…what typically will happen???
Does Muvico then sell it’s lease option to another theater chain?
And if another theater chain does not want it, what then???
I could see a similar situation now that National Amusments has dropped out of several planned sites.
FYI: In the mid 1970’s, General Cinema had an option for a triplex to be included in a downtown proposed mall planned by Ginsburg Taubman which never came to fruition. This is exactly where Regal now wants to build it’s 15 plex.
They also had an option for a triplex on the other side of town on Central Park Avenue @ Underhill Street for a mall that never came to be, but did open as a shopping center with Pathmark. In 1979, United Artists applied to the Zoning Board for a twin theater in this Pathmark-HighRidge strip mall, but they withdrew for unknown reasons before even presenting their case to the Zoning Board.
Lastly, Cineplex odeon was to be part of the Austin Avenue retail center where Stew Leonard’s now stands. They probably never built due to their sell off. Later, RKO Stanley Warner was written up in the local press as being involved in a legal battle with the owners over their planned theater that never came to be.
In closing, it all makes you wonder how many of these projects are planned and never come to fruition for many reasons. maybe a separate, permanent thread of “Theaers Planned that never happened” could be considered by the webmasters. Cinematour.com has something similar.
Some published reports say that Redstone is only keeping 28 theaters in NY and MA. I heard the location planned for Yonkers, Ridge Hill, has been withdrawn. Ridgehill.com has an aerial picture of it, it is located at the bottom of the page against the large wooded area. There are also well placed reports that they ( and Burger King) are being pushed out of their Cross County, Yonkers location because the landlord wants to upscale the entire shopping center. There was talk that Regal was to take over their lease. Not sure if that is still true, but they originally planned to transition the Cross County location to the Ridge Hill up the road. That development won’t open until 2011.
The same developer, The Related Companies, had also planned a development known as “Plaza at the HUB” to be located on Westchester Ave @ Third Avenue, also in Da' Bronx. A 14 screen, 3565 seat, 122, 915 thousand square foot theater was planned. It too, was written up as a “multiplex cinema”. The NYC Environmental Assessment Study ( Google it) has a nice rendering on it’s cover page of the theater, plus a street level schematic diagram located further into the document.
Kingsbridge square footage is 57,485 sq feet, but no seat count is divulged.
I believe National Amusments is the theater operator in both of these projects, as they seem to have found great success throughout the Bronx where other chains have foolishly avoided. Will the keep or sell their lease options???? time will tell…
To the above….not true. He already had takers on some of the better theaters last time around. But he nit picked and wanted everything sold as a lot. This time, the banks are on him to repay his debts.
Some published reports are saying that he will keep 38 theaters in New York and MA. Just enter National Amusements in news.google.com, and it’s all right there…
Their Carmel, NY theater just shut down…..and why do the webmasters not post anything about the impending sale of 35 National Amusements theaters???????
Was on line at the Whitestone, Bronx yesterday, and the guy in front of me spent $47.00 on concession items!!!! Not kidding. Redstone will be smart if they do not sell this big money making theater…
What is the biggest amount anybody else has ever seen spent on concession items???
But a Reuters story a day earlier said nobody wanted to buy all the theaters as one lot, potential buyers want to pick and choose individual theaters and this makes sense for them. Also, some northeast theaters will be in fact sold or closed, and this includes Hawthorne, Bronx E 161 Street and possibly Cross County, Yonkers which may have it’s 20 year lease taken over by Regal. This is extremely problematic as Redstone wanted to close this theater when his new one 2 miles north opens at the Ridge Hill mixed use site on the thruway. Many patrons driving north will still make Cross County their first stop, this is exactly what happened in 1993 when this theater first opened and UA Movieland and GCC Central Plaza both lost patrons. So Redstone will end up competing with his own theater…
I am very, very proud that this website is represented at this event and hopefully the industry will visit Cinema Treasures for the best patron insight available. And thank you to both my buddy movie534 and Ian’s great postings above.
Question: Can non industry folks attend ShowWest???
Have yourselves a great time, and remember,“What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas.”
Major media reports weeks back stated that 45 theaters totaling 600 screens might be sold.
In the Westchester County, NY area, rumor is that the Hawthorne, East 161 St, Bronx, locations may close and the Cross County Yonkers location will transition to Redstone’s soon to open Ridge Hill site up the road on the thruway opposite Stew Leonard’s. Now there is talk of Regal taking over the Cross County 20 year lease from Redstone. If this does occur, it’s quite problematic for Redstone’s new theater up the road, as many southern patrons driving north will continue patronizing the Cross County location which when it opened in 1993, took away much business from both General Cinema’s Central Plaza and UA Movieland up the road.
Congratulations to the both of you!!!
And thank you so much for creating and maintaining this wonderful website.
Warm Regards,
Tom

Who is taking over their lease option for the Ridge Hill site in Yonkers, NY please???
Who is taking over National Amusement’s lease option for the Ridge Hill site in Yonkers, NY??? They have definitely dropped out of it for certain.
Many thanks for that list, ilovefilm.

CORRECTION TO THE ABOVE: 28, not 38 theaters were reported as being retained by Redstone in the media reports I had read.
