We are working as quickly as we can to mail out the hundreds of advance sale orders. We appreciate your patience. When you receive your copy we’re confident you’ll feel it was worth the wait!
We still have copies available of both the standard and deluxe edition. It would make a great holiday gift for that “special person” who loves theatres!
We have just started mailing the books from THS headquarters. As often happens, there was a delay at the printers in Canada and shipment just arrived last week. The Deluxe books will be mailed shortly, as soon as we have the slipcases. Thanks for your patience! We’re confident you will enjoy the book!
There’s one theatre in Queens in the book – the Boulevard, on Northern Boulevard, in Jackson Heights. It’s a nice photo of the outer lobby.
To clarify Gary’s comment above, the Editor’s Notes will correct a few errors in the original volumes, identify many of the theatres listed as “proposed,” and clarify other things such as names, dates and locations. These Notes will be bound into the book itself.
THS is very proud to be making this signigficant book available again after so many years!
Our apologies for the delay! We are working this week on processing the backlog of checks and credit card orders received. We are confident that you will enjoy this historic and fascinating book!
The Theatre Historical Society will be publishing a tribute issue on Steve in our quarterly journal Marquee in the near future. We will also post the material on our THS website, www.historictheatres.org. Your recollections are invited!
Steve was an integral part of THS from the very beginning in 1969 – nearly 40 years.
He was editor of Marquee and the THS Annuals for 11 years and, for many, was the “voice” of THS. In more than 50 issues, many hundreds of pages and thousands of words, he brought to life the history of our wonderful theatres.
In addition, he produced the feature “An Acre of Seats” for the ATOS magazine for many years, providing fascinating glimpses of the theatres which housed the organs.
His insistance on historical accuracy combined with his well-honed yet informal writing style and witty turn-of-phrase made for many hours of enjoyable – and always factual – reading.
To honor Joe’s memory and to continue his dedicated efforts to record and preserve the rich history of America’s theatres, we have established the Joseph DuciBella Memorial Fund at the Theatre Historical Society of America.
In addition to being a founding member of THSA, over the past 38 years he served as President, Archive Administrator, and Chicago Regional Director. He was also a prolific contributor to THS’s journal MARQUEE and wrote several of its ANNUALS, as well as articles and introductions for many other books and magazines.
Joe was a respected authority and leader in the serious appreciation and study of theatres and their history.
We will miss his encyclopedic knowledge, his quick wit, and his willingness to lend a helping hand or encouraging word on anything to do with his beloved theatres.
IMPORTANT NOTE! – We have just extended the ‘early’ online registration rate for our Conclave/Theatre Tour through May 4, 2007 to enable Cinema Treasures members to take advantage of this special rate. The CT discount will also apply to the ‘regular’ online rate after May 4th.
We hope you will join us!

He will truly be missed!
We are researching Quonset hut theatres. Can you tell me the name and location of your theatre and when it opened? If you wish, you can email me at
We also welcome information on other Quonset theatres anyone knows about, past or present.
