The cityscape in the background is clearly a fantasy rendering of Grand Circus Park.

I was the photographer for that shot (as well as the entire book)

The Eastown is quite beautiful and definitely restorable (but sadly the neighborhood dooms it)

The apartment section is what burned in the fire and thanks to great building practices when it was built, the fire wall stopped any damage from occurring to the theater section.

It’s still unfortunate as this was a working theater when Ilitch acquired it

The Adams is coming down this month, followed by the Fine Arts Building.

Closed this year as far as I know, last known it was open in December. Either way it’s closed today.

It’s all over… thanks for your support everyone.

Demolition approved by the new owner… the city of Wayne. Asbestos abatement to occur in the very near future.

Attempt underway to remove plaster decorative elements.

A piece of Wayne’s history is gone, a sad day for a city that doesn’t have much history left to spare.

Yay Yves! I had the pleasure to meet Yves on two separate occasions to photograph some locations around the city. Stunning work, to say the least.

The interior may have very little changes but the nice art deco facade is no-where to be found, hah.

Thanks for the link.

sdoerr commented about Downtown Theatre on Nov 20, 2007 at 12:10 am

On a current map the RKO Downtown would be seen as a parking lot. The Adams Theater is near the corner on Adams Avenue, and the United Artists in on Bagley somewhat near the corner next to a gravel lot that used to contain the Tuller Hotel.

Scaffolding erected in front of the Adams Ave facade of the Fine Arts Building, thus I have reason to believe demolition of the Fine Arts should commence soon. Time will tell if the Adams will join the Fine Arts in the landfill.

Nothing has really changed from the info I posted April 13, 2007.

All I have heard is that bids have been taken for demo contractors for the Fine Arts (and I presume Adams). No visible changes to the theater or Fine Arts.

Amazing set of theaters in the building based on the photos posted above. Such a shame its just another decaying piece of our history.
