I’ve gone there many times as a kid in the 80s and 90s ! I really remember going there in the summer of 1989 to go see Batman and cars were backed up all the way to White Castle 2 miles down the road !..Also,seeing an odd double feature:Tango & Cash \Friday The 13th:part 7 a year or two later ..Like ALL drive ins that existed (still to this day)they always have VERY bad food , horrible restrooms ,arcade games that steal your quarters and employees that don’t care if you just spent $20 on rip off arcade games and food that will make you crap blood for the whole summer !.But,This place holds memories!
This was a drive in I frequently went to every summer as a kid during the 1980s! The Bel Air had the worst food (hot foil bagged burritos,dry hamburgers & hot dogs).. But ,they had a great play ground on one of the sides of the double sided screen!..I also remember the “adult screen” and how the opposite side faced the side of the double sided screen … But,me and some other kids would sometimes sneak over there and laugh at the adults beep their horns at a naked girl on screen!…Ah memories!
Went to go see Predator (and another unknown movie , possibly Platoon or Hamburger Hill)30 yrs ago at this drive in as a kid !..I remember riding in the car for over an hour getting there from Roselle,Il !..This place had more arcade games in the snack bar than any drive in I’ve seen !.It kicked some serious balls !
It’s a real shame that not only THIS place ,but also, The Bel-Air(in Cicero) & The Twin drive-in in Wheeling,Il got torn down around the same time! They showed their ads on the same little 3 inch posting in the news papers ..This was my personal favorite as a kid…I’m pretty darn sure it would STILL be my favorite now,if it was still open! Places like these would do such good business now! Quentin Tarantino just bought The New Beverly Cinema in Hollywood and is showing"very rare" double features every day.Just like these drive ins used to do in the 70 s and 80 s….And packing the very small cinema with moviegoers!
