I have a correction to make; it was not “Superman II”, it was actually “Superman III” that I saw at Serra Theater. I really miss this little theater. It was the closest theater to my home when I was living in Daly City at that time.
This theater played a big part in my childhood. I would often see it whenever I would visit my cousins in the Richmond District starting in the 1970’s. My ex-wife and I saw the “Star Wars-Special Edition” here in 1997. We also saw “Dark City” here in 1998. My brother and I saw “Hulk” here in 2003, which I think was the last movie I ever saw here. I miss those days of visiting this really cool theater.
My younger brother and I saw the “GO APE” Planet of the Apes movie marathon here back in 1973 when we were still living on the other side of Ingleside Terraces. We actually managed to see all 5 of the original Planet of the Apes movies in one day here!
I can recall having watched two movies here; a special private company screening of “Empire of the Sun” in 1987 with my coworkers from Monster Cable Products, and “Toy Story” in 1995. I think I also saw a sneak preview of “Phenomenon” here in 1996 that was shown on the same day when “The Rock” was playing here. I still love those movies even after all of these years.
I think I only ever saw one movie here and it was “The Terminator” in 1984. If I can remember, the lobby was small and cozy. I wish I had seen more movies here before it closed.
I saw “Gattaca” here with my ex-wife in October of 1997. I have fond memories of seeing other movies here when I was still married, like “Saving Private Ryan” and “Titanic”. I also saw “Beetlejuice” here with my brother in 1988. I really miss this theater, it played a big part in my life.
I was actually standing in line amongst these crowds back in the summer of 1977 when I was only 15 years old when “Star Wars” was first shown here! I can still remember that the line actually wrapped around the block! We waited in line for a few hours. I was actually taking part in movie history. I really miss the Coronet. I saw some really great movies there. This theater played a big part in my child and young adult hood.
I will always remember looking down at this floor design whenever I would enter this theater before it closed. I have a lot of fond memories of this theater.
The fondest memories I have of this theater are from the 1970’s when I saw “The Legend of Boggy Creek”, “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease” here. I think I also saw “The Food of the Gods” here in 1976 too. I really miss this neighborhood theater.
I used to love going to this theater when I used to live in Daly City between 1981 and 1984. I remember seeing “Superman II” at this theater around 1981. I am pretty sure that I also saw “A Christmas Story” in 1983 here. I think I also saw “The Neverending Story” here back in 1984, but I am not too sure; it has been more than 30 years ago since I I saw a movie at this theater.
