I’m not sure the dates are entirely correct. I can vaguely remember going in there as a very young child to see the Disney film, “Make Mine Music” and I wasn’t born until 1950. My mum, and all the locals, always referred to it is The Ritz, but I think it had been renamed many years before.
The building wasn’t demolished in 2013 either. I went to what was Jones' fish shop next door about 3 years ago (2017) and it was still there then.
I was born in 1950 and I can recall my mother referring to this cinema as The Ritz, although, I think the name may have changed by the time I went there.
I went there with my mother in either 1953 or 1954 and saw ‘Make Mine Music’, so this was still showing films then and didn’t close completely in 1940.
