I’m Jim Devitt? That’s news to me!! I’m LMAO at that one! There’s really nothing you guys won’t say or do lately is there? First the whole egging thing, now talking about the 5:50 crowd applauding. Too bad all work stopped at 5pm, and the crane operator has to wear a hard hat, NOT a Old Style cap. Nice try though…

Ms. Dynako,
Looking back, don’t you now feel that spending, by your own admission “many hours” talking with one of the people who clapped and cheered as the theatre came down was the wrong thing to do?

Where were the millions that we heard members of the Friends board were going to get from corporations? Where are the items previously taken out of the theatre, some of which we understand you personally have?

Why did you wait until it was too late to attack the trustees and others that were in favor of demolition?

Sorry, but these reports are utterly false! Anything that was to be saved has already been removed. Heneghan is charged with DEMOLITION, that’s it. What items were “stolen”? How do you know teens “broke” in? If there was such wholesale vandalism, why wasn’t it in the Herald? You would think such a “vindictive” crime spree would make news…

Inless you can back up these claims, they should and will be considered FALSE!

I know there were some artifacts that were previously saved before the theatre was destroyed, does anyone know the status of them? From what I recall, there was a trailer full of things…star lamps, seats, etc. as well as a few lamps that were in the posession of several members of the Friends board.

I would hate to see any of these items sold, or even worse, kept as “trophies” by those “people” who wanted to see our historic theatre destroyed!

Quite a few of the people honking were giving the demo work the thumbs down, but it’s funny how that gets turned around…

And all those kids running around and playing? They truly are the ones that will suffer in the future… They are going to be screwed out of the experience of being in a historic theatre like the DuPage. Instead, all they are left with is a generic, cookie-cutter million-plex like Yorktown, where they are unable to perform.

I agree with the previous statement that the egos of Dynako and Fitzpatrick were more important than saving the theatre. Why now that it’s gone, Does Dynako refer to herself in the paper as a “theatre fan” instead of President of the Friends like she used to? Is she trying to quietly distance herself from the group now that SHE failed?

I heard two gentlemen talking, they were saying that they hope they build something there 10 stories high and a block long. I agree with them, I hope they do! The neighbors on Charlotte didn’t like the theatre, wait till they see what they’re going to get!! HA HA HA!!!

First off, “Preservation Princess” you can change your screen name all you want, but you can’t change the stink you bring. We all know you change names on a daily basis, so you’re not fooling anybody.
Second, I’m confused. You say a library on the DuPage property would never produce any sales tax “How could the library get $9.5 million in TIF if the library is not even a tax producing parcel” so why would we want to see our property taxes raised any more to pay for something that is outdated and unnecessary? You’re right, giving millions on TIF would be wrong, even though, by law, it could be done.
You mentioned all the reasons why the library wouldn’t work on that site, so WHY keep bringing it up? Even the library bopard president, in the most recent Lombardian, said they are trying to work out an agreement with the park board for the adjoining property. Everyone on town is smart enough to see the library isn’t a good fit. Except you!!!

We’re sorry, but your sount of “28” is wrong by a long shot!!! We aren’t members of the Friends, and we have quite a few friends, neighbors and church members that are NOT memebers as well. Yet we all support the idea for a cultrual center at the DuPage. Most of us also do not believe that we need a new (unnecessary) library, nor do we want to see our property taxes raised to do such. We also do not believe for one minute that those against the theatre project want any sort of community development whether it be theatre, library or even a park!

I just ran into Mrs. Devitt here in town, and asked her about these “questions” you had. After I respond, this subject should be over. Go back to Lensch’s site if you want to talk trash, leave those of us that enjoy old theatres alone.

The deck. It was built on top of an existing deck. He DID pay for the permit. Tross’s deck was new construction. I believe Tross even put a hot tub on it…Eww, there’s a visual I didn’t need!

Following trustees around? No sir. But when their name is on their plate, it makes spotting them much easier… Whether it be at a local watering hole or on Grace Street.

Few votes? The numbers the told me were out of close to a thousand ballots, the final difference was like 30 or so. That’s pretty close for a write-in! How is he “knee-deep” in local politics? Does he hold public office? Or does he, like a majority of Lombardians, want to see something like a cultural center, done for the community that WILL NOT raise their property taxes like a library would do?

I’m on the library board? REALLY? OH MY GOSH! I havn'e attended a SINGLE meeting! How awful of me!

seeing how I have been a resident of Lombard for more than a decade now, and as someone who did vote for Mr. Devitt, I will set you straight on a few things. First, it was not a “landslide” loss as you claimed, he ran as a write-in and lost by only a few votes. Second, can you name the Village codes he violated? He built a deck without a permit. As I remember, Trustee Tross did the very same thing. Other Trustees park their vehicles on the lawn. Several regularly violate other laws. And you are worried about a deck permit from what, five years ago? Last time we talked to the Devitt’s, they left after buying a larger home, and they were worried about issues in Lombard that weren’t being addressed by Seby and the rest of the Board.

What is your point in trying to embarass him? The only person you are embarassing is yourself by being so childish.

Dude, I wonder the same thing. If those dead-set against the theatre really wanted to come up with a solution, they would have gone to developers and found one with a workable plan that they would have supported and brought it to our Board.
WHY didn’t they do that? What was their reasoning for NOT coming up with a plan? It’s very easy to whine and moan about something, but it’s something else to come up with a solution. Why didn’t they? Unless…
Dude raised some good questions, rather than taking pot shots at him, why not give him some serious answers? We both know he’s talking about well AFTER the ad-hoc RFP’s, about more recent events.

In order for someone to engage in “Friendspeak” don’t they actually have to be a member of the Friends? That would count us out! My apologies, I explained TIF wrong, it IS from the taxes paid by the development, but it IS NOT paid by the rest of the population of Lombard like you are trying to lead us to believe. If they were to just put up 300 more condos guess how much tax money they would put in…Very little, because what would bring people to this development when there are so many other choices in the suburbs? A development like the one RSC proposes would be something different, something that not every town has. Something that’s lacking from our downtown, a small-town feel. Why do you think the 50’s is becoming such a popular era? Look at the cruise night thing, that’s a throwback to the 50’s. Look at the “rat-rod” craze, 50’s. All from that more innocent “small-town” era. What’s wrong with us getting back to the values of that area-pride in families, pride in community?

Actually, the Friends DID in fact back out of the lawsuit, it was supported by the Landmarks Preservation Council (they’re the people who actually try to SAVE HISTORIC BUILDINGS, unlike the Friends, who KNOCK DOWN HISTORIC BUILDINGS! So I guess YOU’RE the inaccurate one.

Parking was addressed by leasing out several local lots for the theatre. Besides, ever go to theatre downtown (I doubt you have!) but if you did, you would find little or no parking there either, bub!

Once again, TIF is NOT being paid by the taxpaying public! And you talk about “Friendspeak” What do you call what you are perpetrating? The TIF would be paid by the sales of the CONDOS IN THE DEVELOPMENT, NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC like you claim. It makes me so mad when people like yourself are dishonest and slant the truth. What sort of
image are you presenting to our youth?

As far as your other claims…
1. How long ago was that election? FOUR YEARS AGO!! GET OVER IT! So much has happened since then, the Friends fumbled so many times since then it’s not even funny!
2. “Demonization” now there’s a fitting word for them! Liar works as well, since one of the Trustees made the Friends believe right up till last week he was for the plan! What about the other Trustee who said previously he wanted to work with RSC to develop a plan? The list goes on, and makes the TOSS Trustees look like flying monkeys, the only question is who is the witch (or warlock) that’s controlling them?
3. Abandonment of fundraising? Well, that’s difficult when you can’t tell someone that the Board supports the project and is willing to go forward with it. At the same time, the Friend’s board did a piss poor job if fundraising!
4. “Puppet candidates”? Where were YOUR candidates? At least someone stepped forward to do the job, instead of hiding behind an anonymous screen name!
5. Trusting Curto? Well, look at his great track record with historic theatres, as well as his work in other communities, as well as his sticking to the project. He could have easily walked away, as a few of you I’m sure are trying to make him do.

The reason there were so few theatre supporters there is that they are SICK of their Board, so tired of listening to them talk about “deconstruction”, etc. The neighbors there represented probably all of those against the RSC plan. I’m sure a lot more people would have loved to see a restored DuPage Theatre and Shoppes there, I know we would…

Sorry. But reading the latest thread by TheDupeDisater makes me wonder what downtown he or she is referring to. There are currently no national chain resturants or coffee houses in the downtown section of Lombard. My opinion is that a national shain of any type would definitely increase traffic to the downtown.

I too, am worried. I would like to see the Friends doing more. While I may not agree with all of DuPage Dude’s posts, I have seen a lack of activity on the part of the Friends so close to a judicial decision that will change the landscape and character of Lombard forever, and I fear it’s in a very bad direction, one of a disregard for the past…

RestorationRita commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 27, 2005 at 4:46 pm

So truky Classless is trying to school someone and she is the one that needs schooling HA HA HA!! That’s soooo funny!!! Why would our property taxes have to go up? The theatre property has not paid taxes for several years, and no one has said that’s why my property taxes are going up. The police and fire departments having to buy brand-new FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES every other year and other wastes of money are why our taxes go up!
Challenger/Steve——-Do you have a crystal ball? You talk about gas being 1.75 when the project was supposed to start, yet it’s down to 1.46 in some spots, doesn’t that mean the cost of the project would go DOWN, not UP as you claimed? Where do you come up with your figures? Another million increase? PROVE IT to us all! Show me the money!!! Funny you call the plan “questionable” now, before you said it didn’t have a chabce, funny how things change.
Dan Cronin has said to us (The Friends) that the TIF would easily pass in the spring, so that’s a non-issue. The project could go if more of the public realized that a few residents should grow up and realize the theater plan would be good for the entire town!

Hey Anne could you please tell me what this Jim whatever person has done to you to have you exibit such malicious hatred? I have not seen where he has personally attached you or such, so why do it? It just makes you look petty and immature. We are on this site to talk about restoration, not to attack each other. If a person wants to post h/h opinion, that is their right…

RestorationRita commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 23, 2005 at 4:10 pm

How can we secure private funding when Truly Classless people like you Anne try to undermine us…Write letters to Sara Lee, go ahead; it will only Truly show how Classless you have become…You say “ A vast majority of the residents are simply sick and tired of waiting.” Isn’t that part of your strategy? To wear people down till they give up? Got news for ‘ya, it ain’t workin’! Funny you said a vast majority are sick of waiting, but you DID NOT say a vast majority are against the project. FINALLY!! you actually made a true statement!!!

What about St. Johns? Would you have become mercenaries for hire and defended residents all over the County? I hear there’s a Burnham home in Chicago that’s slated for demolition and the neighbors are fighting it, why don’t you go to their aid?

You mention a “colossal building” changing the entire look of the downtown, but you also fail to mention the Elmhurst Hospital building, which is out of character with the “downtown Main Street” feel the rest of the area has, as well as the fact it is the same heght (if not more) than the planned theatre development. As a last point, all my years in Lombard, I NEVER heard ANY complaints from the Charlotte bunch that the flyhouse, at 50 feet high, was too much. That’s as high as the condo buiulding would be, isn’t it…

RestorationRita commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 20, 2005 at 7:10 pm

Melders,
Funny you should mention the Normal Theater in Normal, IL. A little known fact that I am sure many of the “newer” Friends are unaware of, was that the former Secretary for the Friends actually worked on the restoration effort of the Normal Theater. She no longer works with the Friends, and that is sad because a lot of the experience she gained during that time would sure be useful now. Then again, the Normal City Council was behind the project 100%, something the DuPage Theatre is severely lacking.
