I saw a program at The Thalia in 1980 on a visit to New York. In 1992 I was invited to present an animation program there. I did several shows that day each with my personal introduction. The first shows had small audiences. Most people stayed over to see the program again. The final program was a tribute to the great animation artist James “Shamus” Culhane with both Shamus and his wife Juana present. On that program Al Aronowitz introduced me to the audience. It was spectacular. At the end of the night one very old Chinese man who had been there from the first show said, “You have given me the best day of my life. Thank you.” I reflected on the historic treatment of Asians of his generation in both The United States and Canada. It was a heckuva compliment. I am glad this theatre continues because it is a wonderful space. https://reghartt.ca/cineforum/
