The small theater in the back but it’s been fixed. That theater will not be used so much for movies in the future. The 3 main theaters will be used for movies and events.
Radio City was always reel to reel. Sometimes they would bring in a platter for special screenings. When the change to digital started, our film premieres went down drastically. The last 35MM we premiered was Kevin Smith’s “Red State” in 2011. Since then, everything has been shown in digital. The only film we still run is 70MM 3D for the Christmas show.
Sorry for sounding that way m00se1111. It just shows you how fast things can change. We got 3 new updates within 4 hours that day. The Friday that we shut down, there were about 1000 people in the audience for the 11AM show with people still coming in. 10 minutes before the show they cancelled it. Early that afternoon they tested the other cast and too many were infected so they had to cancel it all.
I work there. I am not giving misinformation. In fact,we just got an update from management today. It is what I posted. The Christmas Show is not cancelling shows as of right now. Of course, this may change at some point. For now, the information I gave is correct.
Masks are optional at Radio City now and after December 26th for 12 and up. After December 26th, kids 5 and up must show proof of vax or they will not be admitted.
The new mandate is ONLY for places with no vax policy.
The one thing I do know for sure is there will not be anything at the Hall until at least July 2021. Most departments were contacted a few weeks ago that they will be coming in one day to pack away equipment until next July.
Radio City is NOT included in that announcement. Although they may eventually do the same, at this point, August shows are still on. 2 July concerts are still on also…..again….at this point.
I wish I could get you up here. Security has gotten so strict here. We can’t bring anyone up to the booth anymore. I used to bring my kids in with me for the day. Not allowed anymore.
Mark is correct, in general. Major is a relative word depending on who you talk to. If you’re in the show, or working on the show, then there definitely were major changes last year. The flying objects (snowflake balloons) were replaced with the disastrous mini drones. The human flying star scene was added with the drones. A lot of new digital content was changed and added. Camels were not on stage for the Nativity scene. The band car traveled across the stage during the show, like it used to years back. Also, a 2 minute countdown movie was added to the rear LED wall at the top of the show.
This year’s show left out the drones and human star scene. Camels are also back on stage in Nativity. Very slight digital content updates were also done. The last 5 minutes of the show changed slightly with added singers going down the aisles in the orchestra.
These are all major changes to a lot of people. As far as the MAIN scenes that have been in the show forever, they will never change much because they work. There will always be slight tweaks here and there but never too much. There is something new every year. It might not be big, but there are always changes.
Same show as last year except the drones are thankfully gone. A little more interaction with the audience near the end with singers going up and down the aisles. Some of the digital projection has been tweaked.
Cohen bought the Landmark chain a few months ago. The main change will be that the Landmark people will be booking the Quad Cinema starting around June. They will continue with rep titles, just not as many.

I’m a projectionist there. I’ve been there since 2005. The department head has been there since 2000.

I haven’t heard one complaint from ANYONE here over the last 3 weeks about the policy.
Not sure but I have them all in the booth if I ever go back in.

The theater makes little if any. He loves the old theater. He collects theater memorabilia and has it displyed throughout.
