What’s going on with the 3 or 4 theaters on Eduardo Conde, Villa Palmeras… and Borinquen in Ave. Borinquen in Barrio Obrero??? I have the pictures ready!!! ;–)
This theater is now a Arclight Theater. First time I hear about this chain. It it the 1st one in Illinois. Last time I took a pic of this place, it was an AMC.
I talked to one of the guys with the demolition company last week. Their main problem is the basement. The structure right next to what is left, has a basement of 10 feet high! So, he told me that they need to bring more wood to cover/fill it… Also, he said that they are expecting another wrecking machine. Have not been easy to demolish it at once.
The theater in calle Borinquen (esquina con calle Nin) in Barrio Obrero (where I grow up), was closed/abandoned for years and years. I’m not sure, as right now, but I think its a supermarket. At least in the 80s it was closed. I remember two more theaters in Avenida Eduardo Conde in Villa Palmeras, Santurce, where as kid my parents took me and my brothers to see “Orka, The Killer Whale”, “Superman” (I) and “E.T.”, early 80s… I think they are churches now.
Just one to share this talk about Old Movie Theaters in Puerto Rico! Is in Spanish, I know, BUT there’s some pics of old theaters around the island! Enjoy!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E_6VD1406k
