The North Main Theatre opened Christmas Day, 1935 and was built by Interstate Theatres. It operated under Interstate until January 3, 1967 when it was sold to an independeat operator. It continued to operate under the North Main Theatre name until 1984 and when the name was changed to Cine Ritz Theatro and showed only Spanish speaking films until it closed in 1991(?)or so. The theatre was sold to a Spanish speaking church which still operates the building today. The massive marquee and tower signage were removed but the interior remains very close to intact. I spent many an hour as a kid in the 50’s and 60’s and I worked there as an usher until it was sold in 1967. I then went to the Garden Oaks where I worked for a couple of years more…what a great time! I miss it all terribly.
