I recently visited Kingston upon Hull, for the first time in almost 30 years. Staying at the Royal [Station] Hotel, I could see one of the domes from my bedroom window. I was truly delighted to see the Tower Cinema in such good condition - although I couldn’t bring myself to go further than halfway up the stairs to photograph the chandelier. There was nobody on FOH - but the extremely loud music didn’t make me feel like venturing further.
I vividly recall queuing with friends to see ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, when it opened in 1964 [having been part of the all-night queue for their concert at the ABC, in November 1963]
