Capacity pre-recliner remodel is 3,112. Will be going back next month to update the current seating arrangements alongside to take note of Auditorium 15’s TITAN LUXE retrofit.
Looking at photos online I never realized how similarly designed this is to the larger Reading Valley Plaza in Bakersfield, also originally designed by Pacific.
Currently being used as a pickleball complex. While some stuff from the old Pacific/Reading setup seem to still be there judging by the photos/videos I’ve seen, each auditorium has been essentially gutted and turned into individual courts.
Also on a side note I just realized the main lobby mural is based off the poster for “This is Cinerama” but with the Bakersfield sign…wouldn’t be surprised if this was intentional knowing Pacific also owned the Cinerama dome
Auditorium 15 has been upgraded to Reading Cinemas' premium TITAN LUXE format, and is currently upgrading every seat to recliners. Alternatively, theater name is currently Reading Cinemas Valley Plaza IMAX + TITAN LUXE
Unknown when it happened but it appears the theater was gutted sometime between it’s closure and February 2025 (photos I have somewhere show the gutted lobby; another photo from an article posted 2 months after my stop through in Davis shows another section gutted)
Was looking on the old Century website on archive.org and found a January 2005 web capture supposedly states there was at one point a 14 screen theater set to open in the area in Summer 2006
Judging by later captures in 2006 removing the date to an unspecified “coming soon” I’m assuming the plans eventually fell through alongside Cinemark’s later purchase of the Century brand and locations
According to an old article I found, this used to be the location of Edwards Cinemas’ headquarters before their merger into the Regal Entertainment Group in 2002…

No clue why “By 2022 it had an XD screen” is here considering this theater was built with a XD screen rather than having one retrofitted to XD

Correction: the other theater is located in Santa Clara, not San Francisco.
This theater and another Showplace ICON theater in Mountain View have been purchased by Alamo Drafthouse and should be open by next summer.
