With the latest (and most likely last) Star Wars movie set for release next week I couldn’t help but think of the first time I saw the original Star Wars movies. I saw all of them at the Cinedome and it will be forever linked to the Star Wars Saga for me.
Also seeing how it’s the 25th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, did you know the movie was officially released on May 21 in 126 exclusive, limited market 70mm six-track stereophonic sound engagements. And can you guess where one of those 126 limited 70mm editions played? It was at the Cinedome! The 70mm prints differed from the 35mm version in that some editing differences, additional shots, alternate takes, and extra dialogue can be detected through a comparison of the two versions. The majority of the public and media who saw the movie in its first month of release saw the “less complete” 35mm version. The Cinedome was just the coolest theater ever!
