My first encounter with the Cameo was when it was one glorious screen. My Father took me to see both STAR WARS and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK on that single screen. Later when it became two screens I went there and saw all three BACK TO THE FUTURE films, ROCKY IV, MIDNIGHT RUN, HOWARD THE DUCK, STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME, RAIN MAN, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, DICK TRACY, DEAD POETS SOCIETY and SCENT OF A WOMAN. It’s so very sad to see it sit dormant. I fear it will be torn down, just like the Plaza in Scarsdale, where I’m from originally.

I lived in Lake Carmel in the late 70s and through the 1980s and thus saw numerous films at this fairly decent, large two screen cinema (and remember many more that played there that I didn’t get to see.) However, I did see THE MUPPET MOVIE, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, ALIENS, DIE HARD, COBRA, COMMANDO, SONG OF THE SOUTH, RAMBO III and THE DEAD POOL at this theater.

I grew up on Garth Road in the early 1970s and my Mother would walk me and my sisters all over the area. She took us to see films at this lovely theater on a number of occasions during this time…Disney classics such as SNOW WHITE and ALICE IN WONDERLAND, as well as first run of MAME with Lucille Ball. I remember seeing ‘one-sheets’ displayed for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED (although I wasn’t taken to see those.) As a child, I always dreamed of buying and running vintage films in this theater. My heart truly broke when it was torn down to make way for yet more apartments. A beautiful part of Scarsdale and cinema history died when that was allowed to happen.
