Dawn of the Dead  is a 1978 zombie horror film written, directed, and edited by George A. Romero, and produced by Richard P. Rubinstein. An American-Italian international co-production, it is the second film in Romero’s series of zombie films.

EXTRA INFO - A 3D conversion of Dawn of the Dead–the 1978 George A. Romero horror classic–has been running in 250 USA Regal Cinema theaters across the country since last week, and now the run has been extended due to strong fan reaction.

Regal Cinemas said in a statement that “due to unprecedented ticket pre-sales,” the film run will last an extra 10 days. Tickets are on sale at RegMovies.com.

The 3D film is the original, uncut version of Romero’s iconic movie that has been adapted to this new format under the frame-by-frame supervision of Dawn of the Dead producer Richard P. Rubinstein, according to the theater chain.

Dawn of the Dead–written and directed by Romero–shows the horror of a zombie horde swarming across the U.S. In Pennsylvania, a radio station employee and his girlfriend escape in the station helicopter, accompanied by two renegade SWAT members. The group retreats to an enclosed shopping center to make what could be “humanity’s last stand,” according to the synopsis.

The film–starring Ken Foree, Scott Reiniger, Gaylen Ross and David Emge–was a critical and commercial success, earning $66 million worldwide on a budget of just $640,000.
