The shop is now a gift shop. I have posted a picture I took this week. The gals in the shop were kind enough to take me on a tour through the back and up into the old projection booth. My father managed this movie theater back in the 1950s. I watched many movies in this theater as a child.
The picture posted above was among the photos my father had. He managed theaters for Griffith Amusement CO in Cuero in the 40’s until being transferred to OK in 1951. He was an avid photographer of the theaters he managed.
My father managed the Rialto in the 1940s until moving to Oklahoma in 1951. He took many pictures of the exterior of the theater during those years. I have scanned in several and sent them to the city admin office that took over the building. It was fun looking at the changes over the years.
The above picture was taken by my father, John Monroe, when he managed the Cuero theaters back in the 1940s. I don’t know where the name Chero came from. I think it must be a typo. I may post that picture as I have an original with Dad’s collection. Notice the picture in the link on the comment above. The shape of the screens are the same.
My Dad was the manager of the Westland Theatre from about 1953 to 1958 when the company branched out to catv. Among all the old movie theater pictures I found a small box of color slides of the Westland. Some are color versions of the ones in raybradley’s link.
