Saw ‘Stripes’ there in the summer of 1981. It was a nice theater back then.

I lived only a block away as a young child (1964-1970) and I remember going there for Saturday matinee runs of old westerns. The place would be full of kids with about half of us running around (imitating what we saw on the screens; the staff did not seem to mind. I miss that place.

Wow…just wow. I saw more movies here than I can remember. I went to a lot of movies in the mid 80’s thru 1991 with my then girlfriend (we broke-up in late 1991 and I did not frequent movies as much). The River Oaks Theaters were where I did a lot of “$3 Tuesday” movie-going. Between this set of theaters and the River Run (now called the ‘Lansing 8), I have done the bulk of my lifetime movie-going between these theaters. Most memorable movie that I can remember seeing here was 'Aliens’ back in 1986.

From 1987 to 1991, I went to a lot of movies with my girlfriend (once or twice a week, every week…anyone remember $3 Tuesdays?). Chestnut station was an alright place. I stopped going to the movies frequently after 1991 , when we broke-up, so I missed the decline of this Cinema.

When it first opened, the Burnham Plaza was a nice place to see a show. The only problem was parking.

As a youngster in the 60’s and early 70’s, this was were the family primarily went to see shows. We would bring some pop corn and some Kool-Aid (we did not have a lot of money for stuff from the concessions stand) and arrive early so my brother and I could play in the playground before the show started.

Another great movie house shuttered. I remember when the Esquire ran ‘Star Wars’ non-stop in the summer of 1977.

Just saw a movie there last Friday. The place is very clean and has a courteous staff. I grew up in Hyde Park and I am glad this venue has re-opened. Hopefully, with the U of C behind it, it will do well and be a positive for the neighborhood.
