That was “my” place. I grew up in Medford, and seeing the place reduced to rubble, to piles of cement, seats and other debris, was heartbreaking! I work in retail, and from inside sources, here is what I’ve learned about the fate of the property.
There was a bidding war between Walmart and Kohl’s (I work for Kohl’s). Walmart won, and they will be building on the site of the theater. Kohl’s has secured and area next to the Medford Target (on the north side of the LIE, and are already actively planning for their construction there. So the place I grew up, where you had to drive a half hour to get to any kind of shopping, will now have Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, and Sam’s Club all within 5 minutes of each other. Commercialism at it’s best, don’t you think?
