Way back about 65 years ago, the neighbor kids would take me there, Had a small marquee only 2 lines, with couple of lights on the side. Saw The Eastside Kids movie there. Iremember it was never crowed. Probley cost 9 cents to get in
I remember that working there at that time as a doorman. People came out mad and demanded there money back. Most tickets were prepaid, so they couldnt refund the money, but they said to come back in the next weeks and get a full refund. They started the regular show to cool off the people, but that didnt work. It was scary.
Thanks for the pictures showing the inside of the vogue theatre as it now. Offen wondered how it looked inside. The building at Long Beach Blvd and Glenmore was a bowling alley. South Gate Bowl, The Trianon Ballroom was on Firestone Blvd down the street from Long Beach Blvd. Owned by Horace Heit, the bandleader. The Avon Theatre was at Long Beach blve and Santa ana st. Ford dealer took it over later in years. The Gem theatre I have no idea where it was, but always wonder.
The Superman serial ad was not on the marquee, but in the bottom of the ad. Im from the west coast, and rko pantages (los angeles) ran the serial matinees only. I thought it was neat, a serial making the first run houses.
The Bell Theatre was a cowboy heaven in the late 40’s and early 50’s, owned by Fox theatres. Policy was always 2 western features. It was the first theatre to close in the area. All the kids would bring there cowboy hats and cap guns. Changed movies twice a week. I saw Little Beaver (Bobby Blake) in person a special show. I believe the feature they show with it was “The Terror of Tiny Town” A western with all midgets. Was great fun going there
I was born and raised in South Gate,Lived on Illinois Street. and went to the beautiful Vogue growing up. Always played two top featues, Didn’t always get the Roy Rogers movies which upset me. Summer wednesday matinee, a great western and 10 cartoons and a serial.Later became a small theatre chain called South-Lynn theatres. Today it has spanish movies with a stage show, i’ve heard. The name Vogue has disappeared completely from the building. It’s sad.
Republic theatres operated a theatre in New York. I guess this wasnt it. Seems Republic didnt get playdates in New York, so Herbert J Yates got his own theatre. Any one know anything about that theatre.Was mention in Jack Mathis book Republic Confidental
Warners should be restored like their sister theatre in San Pedro. Makes me sad to see it closed, few times i’ve seen it in years. Brings back memories going there. Worked as a door man in the 50’s going to high school. Jack Warner used to preview his upcoming movies there.

What’s your thought on the way projection booths are today? Looks like they need only one projectionest for their multi-flexs
Wiltern was my favorite Warner theatre. You must have been a manager working in their theatres.
it was a great time, had 3-d movies. The change over to Cinemascope and stereo sound. Jack Warner previewed his movies there.

The Lyric Theatre was part of the Fox West Coast chain at one time. I have a 1947 Los Angeles Examiner which lists it under Fox Theatres
