The “old” Colonial definitely ran movies; I have seen ads for the Mutual-Chaplin specials playing there during 1916-17.

As the Frontier, this theater played Charlie Chaplin’s first film, MAKING A LIVING, on February 21, 1914. Too bad it wasn’t fixed up for its 100th anniversary last year.

I have an ad from the WASHINGTON TIMES of September 25, 1915, saying that the Virginia Theater (at 608 9th Street) was running a Charlie Chaplin film every day.
