thank you so much for all your hard work in providing pictures and information about all the theaters in Youngstown. Lots of conversation on facebook today about the demolition of the paramount. It’s too bad they could not save the façade.

I found a posting on facebook which was a copy of a directory and it listed the address of the Palace Theatre, then the Eastman Kodak store shown in this picture, then the next would have been Friedmans Deli and Candy Shop (9 Wick Ave). This confirms the location of where my mom worked in the 1940’s. Friendmans was later known as Rodney Ann’s.

My mother used to work at a candy/deli shop that was next to the Palace. She used to talk how her and the other waitresses would sneak in the adjoining side door and watch all the wonderful shows. It truly is sad that they tore it down. They will never build beautiful theaters like that again.. Very sad. I wish there was a picture of Friedmans Candy/deli shop where my mom worked. would be nice to have since the palace and mom are both gone now. Thank you for the wonderful pictures.

I thought maybe this was my mother standing alone at the left. She worked at Friedmans Deli/candy shop that was supposedly attached to the Palace. The movie on the marque was made before she moved to Youngstown but she had so many memories of all the great shows. She and other girls that worked for Friedmans would sneak in to see the shows because there was a side door that linked the buildings (I think). Is anyone familiar where Friedmans would have been located in reference to the Palace?

Hi, My mother talked about the Palace Theater many times. When she moved to Youngstown from Coraopolis, Pa in the late 40’s, she and a friend worked next door at Friedmans. It was a deli/lunch counter and also a candy shop. Mom said they would sneek into see shows because there was a side door that was always unlocked. She talked about all the big shows and big bands that they got to watch. I wish she was alive so I could show her the wonderful pictures of the theater. I almost thought that was her in the one picture standing alone and the movie banner reads The More the Merrier. But that was made before she moved to Youngstown. Is it possible that Friedmans is to the right of the marque? Thank you for all your hard work with this website.
