Saw FATAL ATTRACTION here in ‘87, and THE DEAD POETS SOCIETY two years later. Does anyone remember Joe Pirrelli, who was an usher here in the late 80s? Lol, I had a crush on him!

I worked here for a couple months back in ‘87, my second part-time job after moving to California. Disliked one crappy co-worker, a little bitch who shall remain nameless. Another employee introduced me to “Rocky Horror”, playing out at the GCC Montclair Plaza. As I recall, we were running LETHAL WEAPON and THE ARISTOCATS during my tenure. During breaks, there was little else to do but sit in the auditoriums watching films. After quitting, I later saw Timothy Dalton’s two Bond outings at this place. In the 90s, they showed Hindi(!) movies, as well as Hollywood fare. THE EDGE(1997)was probably the last flick I caught here.

The theater was pretty shabby by the late 80s. Saw DIRTY DANCING here in early ‘88, and never set foot inside the place again. The sound emanated from a SINGLE speaker placed atop the screen, which itself was the size of a tissue box.

Saw GOODFELLAS and DEAD CALM here twenty years ago, and a revival of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Also, a double feature of DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS/GET SHORTY. For a short while in the 90s, they were running THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Occasionally, the owner’s red Jaguar XKE coupe could be seen parked out front.

Saw WAR OF THE ROSES here on a date in December of ‘89. Theater was only two years old then, and certainly seemed new. This house had the ill luck – like other multiplexes which opened mid-80s to '92 -of opening just before the stadium seating/high-quality sound revolution. Any theater without those accoutrements quickly became moribund, even if was only three or four years old. All San Gabriel Valley theaters constructed in the 70s or 80s are sleeping with the fishes.
