I remember going to the FOX for the. Rock & Roll shows and the last film I saw there was Damn Yankees in 1959. Going to down town Brooklyn to see a film was a big deal.Back in the 50’s besides the FOX you had the Brooklyn Paramount, the Albee and Lowes Metropolitan. These theaters got the first run films after they played in New York City. After the runs there the films played the local neighborhood theaters.
It was very rare that a Fox picture played the Music Hall
In it’s history the Hall played films from every major stuido except 20 Century Fox. The ROXY, down the street was Fox’s exclusive showcase theater for all of their films.
Strange that when King Kong open only in one theater in Los Angeles but played both Radio City Music Hall and the Roxy when it premiere in New York City. You would think that RKO would do the same kind of booking in “The Movie Capital Of The World”.
Living in Brooklyn, in the mid 70’s the Deluxe was known as the the place to go and get off. Stright or gay it didn’t matter you got what you came for. No matter what time of the day it was the place always had a nice crowd. With the computer world we live in now, that type of venue sadly will never happen again.
I never though VistaVision, was so great. It was Paramount way to compete with bigger screen advances.
I saw the film there. Bad Casting, ruin it.
These two don’t look so happy. I hope they had a better year.
Capitol also shared with the Astor theater, the first showing of GONE WITH THE WIND.
This movie was the beginning of the end of the ROXY.

Hal Linden took over the male lead with Ms. Holliday towards the end of the Broadway Run. I’m sure their friendship got him a part in the film.
